Togo Launches Social Protection Program Benefiting 700,000 Vulnerable Households


Thursday, December 18, 2025, The National Social Protection Program was officially launched in Lomé by Dr. Sandra Ablamba Johnson, Minister and Secretary-General of the Presidency of the Council, on behalf of President Faure Gnassingbé. The initiative aims to strengthen social and economic inclusion for Togo’s most vulnerable populations.
The launch was attended by the Minister of Health, the Minister Delegate in charge of Youth and Sports, the President of the ECOWAS Parliament, Hadja Mémounatou Ibrahima, members of the National Assembly, senators, technical and financial partners, and other dignitaries.
The program, aligned with the national social protection policy adopted on December 17, 2025, is structured around three key components: Unconditional cash transfers for vulnerable households, Employment opportunities for vulnerable youth, Economic empowerment of vulnerable households, particularly women.
Under the first component, 700,000 people nationwide will receive 25,000 FCFA per household, distributed through secure channels, including mobile money.
Dr. Ablamba Johnson emphasized that the program reflects President Gnassingbé’s commitment to social and economic inclusion and serves as an operational instrument aligned with national priorities. She underlined the importance of ensuring that funds reach beneficiaries safely and with dignity, while thanking technical and financial partners for their support.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the President, welcoming the initiative as a meaningful measure to improve their socio-economic conditions.
The launch of this program marks a significant step toward the implementation of a consolidated social protection system, aimed at reducing poverty, strengthening community resilience, and providing a safety net for Togo’s most vulnerable populations.
