During the International Conference on the Kingdom of Kush, held on Saturday, 31 January 2026, Hon. Marc Joseph Bazié, Political Analyst , Historian, and Secretary General of the African Youth Parliament of the Kingdom of Kush, delivered a compelling presentation on the historical, legal, and symbolic foundations of the modern Kingdom of Kush.

Speaking under the theme “Heritage and Perspectives,” Hon. Bazié drew a clear parallel between modern Ghana’s adoption of the name of the ancient Ghana Empire and the Kingdom of Kush’s reference to the ancient Kushite civilization. He explained that such naming choices are deliberate acts of memory, aimed at reconnecting African societies with their pre-colonial civilizations and reclaiming narratives that long predate colonial borders.

He recalled that the ancient Kingdom of Kush, centered in Nubia, was one of Africa’s great civilizations and even ruled Egypt as the 25th Dynasty, asserting African leadership across the Nile Valley. According to him, the name “Kush” carries authority, continuity, and a legacy of sovereignty.

Addressing the contemporary project, Hon. Bazié clarified that the modern Kingdom of Kush, proclaimed on the territory of Bir Tawil, does not claim legal continuity with the ancient state, but rather a symbolic and cultural reappropriation, similar to precedents across Africa.

He concluded by presenting the Kingdom of Kush as a peaceful, pan-African initiative, centered on inclusive governance, diaspora engagement, and long-term cooperation rather than imposed political unification.

The presentation sparked constructive dialogue among participants, reinforcing the conference’s role as a platform for critical reflection on Africa’s historical heritage and future state-building models.
